Prescription Collections

The Market Surgery is not a dispensing practice. Any prescriptions which are issued to you by a clinician, will need to be collected from a local pharmacy. A list of our nearest pharmacies can be found on our Local Services page

Ordering Repeat Medications

In all instances patients  should allow up to 48 working hours for their repeat prescription requests to be authorised by the Surgery. Please bear this in mind particularly over weekends and Bank Holiday periods

Online

The easiest way to order your repeat prescriptions is by using an online patient access facility, such as the NHS App. Simply select the medications you require within the app and a request will be sent through to the Surgery. Once actioned your prescription will be sent electronically to your nominated pharmacy to be dispensed.

Repeat Prescriptions will normally have a review time frame – usually 12 months. When the review date for your medication has expired, prescriptions cannot be issued without being re-authorised by a doctor. You may be asked to make an appointment before receiving further prescriptions.

Using the app you will also be able to check when your prescription has been authorised.

In Surgery

You can order your repeat prescription by dropping the right hand side of your prescription into the practice indicating the items you require. These can be handed to reception or placed in our external post box

Telephone

To help with reducing the waiting times for patients we do NOT accept repeat prescription requests over the telephone. Please use one of the above methods for ordering your medications.

In exceptional circumstances some patients may be permitted to order over the telephone to prevent harm or overcome significant barriers. If you feel that this applies to you then please speak to a receptionist.

Pharmacy Collection

We operate an Electronic Prescription Service (EPS) whereby your repeat prescription will be sent automatically to your pharmacy of choice.

Forms are available from reception where patients can indicate their chosen local pharmacy they would like their prescription to be sent to for dispensing enabling patients to be able to collect medications directly from the pharmacy of their choice.

Some local Pharmacies also do an order and delivery service too. You can contact them directly to arrange this service.

Medication Queries

If you have queries over medications then speak to your nominated pharmacy in the first instance where a highly qualified Pharmacist can provide assistance.

Order What You Need

You may have many items on your repeat prescriptions list. Some of them you will use regularly, others you might just use once in a while.

An estimated £1.5 million is wasted in Rotherham alone, by patients ordering medications that they don’t really need. This is known as stockpiling medications.

This money could be better spent on improving your access to, and experience of, healthcare provision.
